Garfield tops Southeast 5-0 behind complete game shutout and 15 K’s from Aidan Hill
GARRETTSVILLE, OH- It was another chilly evening in the early high school baseball season at James A. Garfield high school Tuesday night when the G-MEN hosted the Southeast Pirates. Both teams were fresh off of season opening wins on Saturday as Garfield topped Bristol 9-2 and the Pirates beat Matthews 7-3. It was a pitching matchup between two of the areas top hurlers in Aidan Hill of Garfield and Joe Sharish of the Pirates. Hill would shine on the mound and at the plate as Garfield shutout Southeast 5-0.
Hill got off to a big start in the 1st inning as he struck out the side in the top half and then helped his own cause with an RBI single in the bottom half. The G-MEN would add two more on two passed balls with a runner at 3rd giving them a 3-0 lead after one.
Hill would begin the top of the 2nd with a pair of strikeouts before Zach Keto singled up the middle for the Pirates. Hill was able to strike out Alaunte Massrock to end the inning.

The G-MEN still held a 3-0 lead after two. The Pirates were able to get baserunners on each of the next three innings but were not able to push a run across against Hill who accumulated six more strikeouts in the process.

In the bottom half of the 5th Garfield lead-off hitter Brandyn Bogucki reached on a line drive single to left with one out. A pickoff attempt at first by Pirates starter Joe Sharish got past the first baseman and allowed Bogucki to move up to second base. Hill followed up with a one hop rocket to second that got past the second baseman and into right center scoring Bogucki. That run scoring hit also signaled the end of the day for Sharish as he was relieved by Massrock. The G-MEN led 4-0 after five.

The Pirates were able to get a one out baserunner on in the top of the 6th after Caleb Miller was hit by a pitch and then stole second base. Hill was able to work out of it by striking out the next two batters giving him 13 for the game.

Garfield would pickup an insurance run in the bottom half. Brock Pesicek was hit by a Massrock pitch to begin the inning. He moved to second on an error at first and then to third on a ground out by Jared Cardinal. With one out pinch hitter Mason Andrikanich sent a ground ball to the shortstop who attempted to thrown Pesicek out at the plate, but the throw was off the mark and Garfield tacked on run number five. They would lead 5-0 heading to the top of the 7th.
Aidan Hill was back on the bump to try to finish the complete game shutout. He retired the side with a pair of strikeouts and a ground out to second to end the game. The G-MEN took this one 5-0.

It was a masterful performance by Hill on the mound going the full 7 innings allowing only 2 hits and no runs while striking out 15 on 106 pitches. He also led the charge on offense going 2/3 with 2 RBI. Garfield moves to 2-0 on the season as they prepare to host Mogadore on Thursday. The Pirates drop to 1-1 as they host Fuchs Mizrachi Varsity Mayhem also on Thursday.
