Southeast leads from start to finish in 4-2 win over Garfield
GARRETTSVILLE, OH- The Southeast Pirates and Garfield G-MEN met for the second time this week on Friday night. They game was originally scheduled to be played at Southeast, but due to bad field conditions from the rain this week it had to be moved to Garfield high school. Despite playing on the road, the Pirates remained the home team for this one. They would complete the series sweep over Garfield with a 4-2 win.
Liz Bragg started on the mound for the Pirates and set the G-MEN down in order in the 1st inning. In the bottom half Southeast would get a pair of runs off Garfield starter Olivia Bailey. Lilly Hayes led off with a single followed by a Morgan Muncy sharp line drive double to center putting runners at second and third with no outs. Ava Stephens would then draw a walk to load the bases. Neena Truex sent a ground ball to short on the next pitch. The attempted force at home was not in time giving the Pirates the first run of the game. After a force out, Lylia Lavigna scored Stephens on a sacrifice fly to right field. Southeast took a 2-0 lead after one.

Both sides were retired in order in inning number two. Garfield would get on the board in the top of the 3rd. Olivia Zicari led off the inning with a single. She would reach second on a sacrifice bunt by Annie Rado. After a pop out, Brooke Hrabak slapped a double down the left field line scoring Zicari. Garfield trailed 2-1 heading to the bottom half.

Bailey retired the Pirates 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 3rd. Garfield would threaten in the top of the 4th after an Emily Knerem single and Juliana Genovese reaching on an error put two on with one out. Bragg was able to get out of it after a Bailey fly ball to right turned into a double play as right fielder Lylia Lavigna gunned down Knerem’s attempt to tag and score from 3rd to end the inning.

Southeast would tack on another run in the bottom of the 4th. Lavigna reached on a one out single before Bailey Morris reached on an error putting runners at first and second. Leah Mesaros would ground into a fielders choice scoring Lavigna for run number three. The Pirates led 3-1 after four.

The G-MEN were set down in order by Bragg in the top of the 5th. In the bottom half the Pirates would get an insurance run. Morgan Muncy drew a one out walk before Ava Stephens reached on an error. Neena Truex then ripped a double to left scoring Muncy on a close play at the plate. That gave Southeast a 4-1 lead after five.

Garfield would get a run back in the top of the 6th. Hrabak and Charlee Hill opened with back to back singles. They then executed a successful double steal to bring home a run and cut the deficit to 4-2. Bragg limited the damage retiring the next two batters.
Bailey would retire the Pirates in order in the bottom half of the 6th. Garfield had one last shot in the top of the 7th. Bailey led off with a single, but Bragg was able to slam the door retiring the next three straight to close out the 4-2 victory.
Truex led the way on offense for the Pirates going 2/3 with a pair of RBI. Bragg went the distance on the mound for the win. Brooke Hrabak was 2/3 with an RBI for the G-MEN.
