Falcons Balance Too Much for the Irish; Field defeats SVSM 7-3

Brimfield, OH- The Field Falcons welcomed the Akron St. Vincent St. Mary Irish to town Saturday morning looking to get their first victory of the 2025 campaign. Coach Beth Dyer’s squard faced a deficit from the jump, after Irish 1st baseman Avarie Mays sent a Maddie Burge offering out to right center, clearing the fence and giving the visitors a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st.

The Falcons didn’t take long to cut into that deficit, scoring one in the home half of the 1st inning after Lilly Sutkowy led off with a single. She advanced to 2nd on a fielders choice before swiping third on a stole base. Maddie Burge helped her own cause when she grounded out to 2nd, allowing Sutkowy the opportunity to scamper home. The score would remain 2-1 through the next 2 and a half innings.

In the bottom of the 4th, the Falcons offense tacked on 4 in their half of the frame. It was a rally that started at the bottom of the Falcons lineup, with Nyla Hindel leading off the rally with a double to the left center gap. 9 hole hitter Jessica Pollard laid down a perfect bunt and beat the throw to first to put Falcons on the corners with no outs as the lineup flipped over. Pollard took the opportunity of having a running on 3rd to steal second, staying out of the double play. Sutkowy grounded out to 2nd, but both runners were able to advance, knotting the game at 2 and putting the lead run at 3rd base with only 1 down. Kailyn Gressman was next up and she sent a shot up the middle into centerfield, giving the Falcons a 3-2 advantage, a lead they would not give up the rest of the afternoon.

The Falcons weren’t done however, as Maddie Burge reached on an error before Delilah Rahe flew out to left field for the 2nd out of the inning. A throwing error trying to cut Gressman down at 3rd enabled Burge to move up to 2nd. Short stop Tia Ulrich ripped a 2 out RBI single to right, plating Gressman. Abby Harlin was next up, reaching on an error while courtesy runner Cassidy Wells came across to score, giving the Falcons a 5-2 lead after 4.

The Irish were able to get one back in the top half of the 5th when E Kim doubled on a deep fly ball to right center, bringing K Batchik around to score after she led off the frame with a single.

In the home half of the 5th, it was Hindel once again starting the rally, leading off the inning with a single to left. Following a Pollard ground out, courtesy runner Addy Lay came on for Hindel before Sutowky doubled on a line drive to left, bringing Lay around to score. Sutowky stole 3rd and was able to take home following another Irish mishap, bringing the score to 7-3 and finishing off the scoring on the afternoon.
